-performance 1 ‘Imprint’

나의 작업에서 바디페인팅은 신체라는 껍데기 속에 숨겨진 무형의 감정을 가시화 하기 위한 수단이다. 물리적으로는 몸을 물감으로 가리는 것이지만, 상징적으로는 몸 속의 감정이 배어 나오는 것이 된다. ‘Imprint’에서는 이렇게 드러난 내면의 감정을 가장 보편적이고 형식적인 미술 작품의 바탕인 캔버스에 찍어낸다. Imprint는 각인이란 뜻으로, 캔버스에 찍어내어 기록하는 이 행위를 말한다.

In my work, body painting is a means of visualizing the intangible emotions hidden in the shell of the body. Physically, the body is covered with paint, but symbolically, the emotions in the body are oozing out. In 'Imprint', this emotional expression is imprinted in the canvas which is the basis of the most common and formal works of art. 'Imprint' becomes a proper noun to call this act of recording on the canvas.

-Performance 2 ‘Mark of relation’

신체를 덮은 물감이 내면의 감정을 의미한다면, 신체로 접촉함으로써 묻어나는 물감의 흔적은 관계를 상징할 수 있지 않을까? 라는 질문에서 시작된 ‘Mark of relation’은 관객들의 참여로 완성되는 퍼포먼스이다.

첫 번째 퍼포먼스인 ‘Imprint’를 통해 개인적이고 폐쇄적인 감정을 표출한 작가는, 이를 관객들에게 간단한 방법을 통해 이루어 볼 것을 권한다. 작가가 일부 관객들에게 손에 각각 다른 색 물감을 묻힌 상태로 악수하면, 그들은 다시 다른 관객들과 악수함으로써 여러 색깔로 섞인 물감 흔적을 전파한다. 물감의 색에 정해진 의미는 없으며, 관객이 스스로의 감정을 나타낼 수 있다고 여기는 색을 선택한다. 2회 이상, 만족스러울 만큼 악수를 나눈 관객들은 준비된 캔버스에 손에 남은 흔적을 찍어낸다. 펼쳐진 손의 형태가 드러나도록 찍을 수도 있고, 얼룩이나 무늬처럼 보이도록 묻혀낼 수도 있다. 각각의 캔버스들은 수거되어 하나의 평면 작품으로 완성된다.

  간단한 행위들이지만, 이를 통해 자신의 우울한 감정을 쉽게 타인과 나누지 못하는 사회적 분위기 속에서 사람들이 간접적으로라도 감정의 교류를 시각적으로 드러낼 수 있도록 한다. 그리고 이러한 행위들의 결과는 하나로 엮어져 소통의 상징으로서 imprint된다.

If the paint covering the body is an inner feeling, can not the traces of the paint that come into contact with the body symbolize the relationship? The 'Mark of relation', which started with the question, is a performance that is completed by the participation of the audience.

The artist who expresses personal and closed feelings through her first performance 'Imprint' recommends this to the audience through a simple method. When the artist shakes hands with some different colors of paint on some audiences, they shake hands with other audiences and spread the traces of paint mixed with various colors. There is no meaning assigned to the color of the paint, and the color that the audience considers to be able to express their own emotions is selected. Audiences who shake hands more than two times take a leftover mark on the prepared canvas. You can stamp the shape of the unfolded hand, or you can smear your hand to look like a stain or pattern. Each canvas is collected and completed as a single flat work.

  It is a simple act, but it makes it possible for people to indirectly express emotional exchanges visually in a social atmosphere where they can not easily share their depressed feelings with others. And the result of these acts is imprinted as a symbol of communication.
